Resisting extremism takes many forms

so extreme that Gov. DeSantis limited book challenges

The Daily Show covers yet another ridiculous WLA featured Team Member, Bruce Friedman.

"In the last two years I have challenged more than one book every calendar day." - Bruce Friedman

Regarding Clay County School District;  "We have spent more time and resources on Bruce Friedman than any other person in the history of Clay County."  -  Julie Miller, former CCSD high school librarian

Librarians Fight Back

"Librarians need to stand up, but if our community doesn’t stand up behind us... one person can’t make this change. The entire community is going to have to come together with the librarians in order to stop this."

Brooky Parks (Former librarian who settled for $250K with High Plains Library District(CO) on civil rights dispute regarding her discriminatory firing)

John Green, Public Education, TB and the UN

John Green on returning to school

John Green, author of Looking for Alaska (restricted at Nixa HS) speaks on the benefits that public education bring to society and why students should be excited about school.  For the groups driving the majority of the book challenges both nationally and statewide, it's not really about the books.  It's mostly about destroying, or at least diminishing, the perceived value of public education so that those funds get diverted for their private use.  U-Turn in Education remains enthusiastic about quality public schools.

John Green's action likely saving millions of lives in upcoming years and he gets invited to the UN.  And Nixa restricts and tries to remove his books.

Extraordinary outcomes on the worldwide TB front.

The May 2022 Nixa School Board Meeting.  Conduct at this meeting was so bad that the rules for Public Comments were changed for future meetings.  Find this on our YouTube channel

  https://www.youtube.com/@UTurninEducation

At a comparable meeting on June 22, 2023, following our calls for considerable improvements in transparency by the board, the meeting was much more civil.  We appreciate the board's efforts on that front.

CBS SUnday Morning

The Fight Over Banning Books.

An excellent overview of our national problem.

TED Ed

A beautiful piece of literature, accepted now, but it's been a decades long struggle.  This success story serves as a reminder that we're in this for the long haul.

The spectacular grace linn

A remarkable speech to a school board in Florida.  Be a Father of Freedom or a Mother of Liberty.

Inconsistencies from state to state

Illinois Governor Pritzker - "Here in Illinois, we are showing the nation what it really looks like to stand up for liberty."

unlikely ally

A little unexpected

fascinating video from 1982 of authors of censored books

This video opens with an interview of the Pulitzer prize winner Toni Morrison, the author of The Bluest Eye. That book has been challenged and restricted at the Nixa High School Library.

A great video from Vice 2022

daily show's funny take on a very unfunny subject

The whole clip is good, but LeVar Burton is awesome here at ~ 8:30

looking for alaska author john green. this book was challenged and is now restricted at the nixa high school library

Don't just do something. Stand there.

John green on looking for Alaska and more

"Text is meaningless without context."

"...if you have a worldview that can be undone by a novel, let me submit that the problem is not with the novel."

Art spiegelman

Author of Maus being the brilliant storyteller that he is.
